Manhattans are a timeless classic that will always be a hit at an event.
What’s in a Manhattan?
2 oz Rye or Canadian whisky
3/4 oz Sweet red vermouth
Dash Angostura bitters
Maraschino cherry (Garnish)
How to make a Manhattan
1. Find the Right Glass
The best glass to use for a Manhattan is a rocks glass or a martini glass.
2. Add Ingredients into Mixing Glass or Shaker
Pour in the Whisky, Vermouth and bitters into a glass
3. Stir
Stir for 90 seconds
4. Strain into glass
Traditionally, Manhattans are served straight up in a Martini glass. It is common nowadays though for guests to ask for their Manhattans on the rocks in a rocks glass.
6. Add Garnishes
Add a cherry into the glass.

Who Invented the Manhattan?
The Manhattan was created in the late 1800’s by Iain Marshall at the Manhattan Club in New York City. It was offered at a banquet honoring Samuel J. Tilden.

2 ounces whisky
1/2 ounce coffee liqueur
2 dashes orange bitters

Created in 1908, this is a French rendition of the classic Manhattan.
2 ounces rye whiskey
1 ounce dry vermouth
1/4 ounce maraschino liqueur
1/4 ounce Amer Picon (or 1/4 ounce Bigallet China-China Amer or 2 dashes Angostura bitters)
Garnish: Luxardo maraschino cherry
The Martinez
A Manhattan for those who prefer Gin over Whisky and want a bit more of a malty taste.
1 1/2 ounces gin
1 1/2 ounces sweet vermouth
1/4 ounce Luxardo maraschino liqueur
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Garnish with an orange twist
